Beximco Pharma Reports Strong Annual Profit Growth

Beximco Pharmaceuticals, one of Bangladesh’s leading listed drug manufacturers, has reported a profit of Tk 694 crore for the last financial year, reflecting a notable performance in its core pharmaceutical operations. The figure was confirmed following the finalisation of the company’s audited accounts for the financial year ended in June, as approved by its board of directors.

Alongside the profit announcement, the board has declared a total cash dividend of Tk 212 crore for shareholders. This translates into a payout of Tk 4.75 per share, offering returns to investors across all categories of ownership. The decision was taken following regulatory approval from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, after which the board meeting formally concluded the company’s financial statements for the 2024–25 financial year, along with selected quarterly accounts.

The dividend distribution reflects the company’s shareholder structure. Sponsor-directors, who collectively hold just over 30 per cent of the shares, are set to receive approximately Tk 64 crore. Foreign investors, with nearly 27 per cent ownership, will receive around Tk 58 crore. Institutional investors, holding a little over a quarter of the company’s equity, are expected to obtain close to Tk 54 crore. Retail or general investors, who make up the remaining shareholding base, will receive about Tk 36 crore in total.

The company has set 2 August as the record date, meaning only shareholders holding shares on that date will qualify for the declared dividend. The payout process is expected to begin after the conclusion of the annual general meeting.

Despite the strong earnings announcement, the company has faced a challenging corporate governance and regulatory period. Following political changes, the appointment of independent directors and related legal complexities led to delays in board meetings. These disruptions also slowed the publication of financial reports, leaving investors without updated disclosures for an extended period.

As a result of the reporting delays, Beximco Pharma’s listing on London’s Alternative Investment Market was temporarily suspended. The suspension stemmed from non-compliance with reporting deadlines, and prolonged inactivity in such circumstances can potentially expose a company to the risk of delisting under exchange rules.

In the domestic market, however, the company remained highly active. On the day of the announcement, its shares experienced a price decline, falling to Tk 142 by midday trading. Despite the drop in price, Beximco Pharma remained one of the most heavily traded stocks on the Dhaka Stock Exchange, with significant volumes changing hands as investors reacted to the latest financial disclosures and dividend news.
