A 30-year-old man was allegedly murdered in Lakshmipur district after being lured from home over a phone call made under the pretence of settling an outstanding debt. The victim, identified as Farhad Hossain, was later found dead in a field near his residence, with police reporting that his right eye had been gouged out in what appears to be a brutal attack.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in the Purbachar Manasha area of Tewariganj Union. Police recovered the body from an agricultural field adjacent to the family home in the morning and have since launched an investigation into the killing.
According to family members, Farhad, an autorickshaw driver by profession and father of one child, received a phone call at around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday night. The caller allegedly claimed he would repay money owed to him and asked him to come outside his home. Farhad subsequently left the house and never returned.
His wife, Nargis Begum, recounted that when attempts were made to contact him later that night, his mobile phone was switched off. By morning, the family learned that his body had been discovered approximately one kilometre from their home. She stated that the murder was likely linked to financial disputes involving unpaid debts.
Police from the Sadar Model Police Station in Lakshmipur confirmed that the body was recovered from the field and sent for post-mortem examination. Investigators have described the case as a suspected homicide and have begun legal proceedings. Authorities are currently working to identify and apprehend those responsible.
A police official noted that the nature of the injuries suggests a violent confrontation, though the motive has not yet been officially confirmed. The investigation is ongoing.
