A 17-year-old college student, Ashfaq Kabir Sajid, has been killed in an incident in which he was allegedly assaulted and then thrown from the eighth floor of an under-construction building into a lift shaft in the city of Chattogram. The incident took place on Sunday night in the DC Road area under the jurisdiction of Chakbazar Police Station, within the Mousumi Residential construction site.
A case has been filed by the victim’s father, Abul Hashem Sikder, at Chakbazar Police Station on Tuesday. In the complaint, seven individuals have been named. Police have arrested one suspect, identified as Enamul Haque, who worked as a security guard at the building site. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and further arrests are expected.
The deceased, Ashfaq Kabir Sajid, was a first-year student at BAF Shaheen College in Chattogram. He was originally from Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar district and lived in a rented residence near the Bakalia DC Road cemetery in the city.
Account of events in the complaint
According to the First Information Report, the sequence of events began in the afternoon when Ashfaq received a phone call from Fardin Hasan, an acquaintance, who asked him to come to the Mousumi Residential area near Bakalia Access Road.
When Ashfaq arrived, he was allegedly confronted by a group of young men identified in the case as Iman, Anik, Rana Michael, Ilias, Enayet Ullah, and Miskatul Qayes, along with others. The complaint states that the group threatened him with sharp weapons and forcibly took him from the location.
In an effort to escape, Ashfaq reportedly entered a nearby under-construction building and locked the entrance gate from inside. He then ran up to the eighth floor. However, according to the case details, the attackers forced entry after the building’s security guard, Enamul Haque, opened the gate.
The group then pursued him to the upper floors of the building. Ashfaq was allegedly assaulted there before being thrown from the eighth floor into the lift shaft. He sustained critical injuries as a result.
Medical and legal proceedings
Ashfaq was taken to hospital following the incident, where medical staff declared him dead. Police have stated that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining accused and to establish the motive behind the killing. They are also examining whether the incident is linked to disputes involving local youth groups.

The victim’s father has demanded a full investigation and strict punishment for those responsible, stating that his son was not involved in any political activities. Police officials have confirmed that the investigation is active and progressing.
