Three separate road accidents in Shibganj upazila of Bogura have claimed the lives of a woman and two men within a span of roughly 24 hours, highlighting ongoing safety concerns along the Dhaka–Rangpur highway and adjacent regional roads. The incidents occurred at different times on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, according to police and local sources.
In the first incident, a fatal collision took place in the early hours of Wednesday at around 5:30 a.m. in the Chokpara area of Mokamtola. A stationary ten-wheel truck, which had broken down due to fuel depletion, was parked by the roadside. At that time, a second speeding bamboo-laden truck lost control and crashed violently into the rear of the stranded vehicle. The impact was severe, crushing the cabin of the stationary truck. The helper of the truck, Golam Mostofa (32), died on the spot. The driver of the moving truck fled the scene immediately after the crash. Highway police later recovered and seized both vehicles for investigation.
Later the same morning, another accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on the Mokamtola–Joypurhat road near the Amtoli area. An easy-bike carrying passengers was heading towards Amtoli when its driver, Minarul Islam (25), reportedly lost control near a filling station. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into a roadside ditch. Minarul Islam died instantly. The owner of the easy-bike, identified as a member of the third gender community, sustained injuries in the incident.
The third fatality occurred on Tuesday evening at around 7:15 p.m. in the Hatibandha area of the same upazila along the Dhaka–Rangpur highway. Khatemun Bibi (60), a housewife from Lahiripara in Bogura Sadar, had visited Hatibandha to see the body of her nephew, who had died of cancer. While returning home after paying her respects, she was crossing the highway when a speeding microbus struck her. She died at the scene. The vehicle involved fled immediately after the collision.
