Fake Detective Raid Sparks Shooting in Narayanganj

A dramatic incident unfolded in the Fatualla area of Narayanganj on Sunday night when a group posing as detectives attempted to abduct a local flexiload trader, triggering a violent confrontation that left at least four bystanders injured by gunfire and one suspect in police custody.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm in the Kutubpur West Rasulpur Bhangarpul area, directly in front of the shop of a trader identified as Suman Mia. According to local accounts, the situation escalated rapidly after a group of four to five individuals arrived on two motorcycles, claiming to be members of law enforcement.

Sequence of Events

Preliminary information suggests that the violence may have stemmed from a financial dispute. Two days earlier, a man known locally as Shamin, also using the alias Jewel, had taken mobile credit (flexiload) worth 2,000 taka from Suman’s shop but failed to pay immediately. The shopkeeper reportedly detained him temporarily until payment was made, after which he was released. Authorities believe this earlier incident may have prompted a retaliatory plan.

On Sunday night, Shamin returned with associates. The group attempted to forcibly abduct Suman Mia by presenting themselves as detectives. Suspicion grew among locals, particularly when they failed to properly identify themselves. A resident, Anwar Hossain, challenged them and asked to see identification. In response, one of the suspects allegedly pointed a pistol at his chest, escalating tensions further.

As the confrontation intensified, local residents gathered quickly and surrounded the group. Feeling trapped, the suspects attempted to flee while firing indiscriminately. The gunfire caused panic in the densely populated area and resulted in four pedestrians sustaining injuries. All injured individuals were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Arrest and Police Action

Amid the chaos, locals managed to detain one suspect after a brief chase. He was later handed over to the police following a mob beating. The remaining accomplices escaped the scene, reportedly carrying weapons.

Police officers arriving at the location recovered four spent bullet casings from the scene. The arrested individual, who initially identified himself inconsistently as both Shamin and Jewel during questioning, has since been placed under custody and given preliminary medical attention.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects. Efforts are also ongoing to trace the origin of the firearms and the motorcycles used in the operation.
