Five SSC Students Injured in Crash

Five Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees were injured after a collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a dump truck in Shreepur upazila of Gazipur district, Bangladesh, on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on 28 April at MC Bazar along the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway. According to local sources, the students were travelling to their examination centre in the auto-rickshaw when it was struck by a dump truck, resulting in injuries to all five occupants.

The injured students have been identified as Jahid Hasan (16), Abir (16), Sojib (16), Ahad (16), and Pappu (16). All of them are SSC candidates from Hajee Chhoto Kalim High School, located in MC Bazar area under Telihati Union. They originally hail from Dhanua village in Gazipur Union.

Following the accident, the students were initially taken to a local healthcare facility for first aid. Due to the severity of injuries, three of them were later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while the remaining two proceeded to sit for their examinations after receiving primary medical attention.

School authorities confirmed that immediate steps were taken after receiving news of the accident. The head teacher of Hajee Chhoto Kalim High School, Abdul Hannan Sajal, stated that two teachers were dispatched to the site promptly to assist the injured students and coordinate medical arrangements.

The examination centre authorities also confirmed that despite their injuries, the students attempted to participate in the ongoing SSC examinations. Abul Kalam Azad, headteacher of Dhonai Bepari Memorial High School and centre secretary, noted that two injured students entered the examination hall shortly before noon and sat for the test under medical observation.

Shreepur Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Saiful Islam described the incident as deeply unfortunate, confirming that three students were transferred for specialised treatment while two continued their examinations.

Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md Nahid Bhuiyan also confirmed the incident and said that the local administration is closely monitoring the medical treatment of the injured students and ensuring necessary support.
