Suspicious Object Recovered in River Ghat

A bomb-like object accompanied by a handwritten note has been recovered by police from Meherpur’s Gangni upazila, prompting concern among local residents. The discovery was made on Sunday morning (3 May) at a river landing point in Char Goal village, situated along the Mathabhanga River.

According to local accounts, villagers first noticed a polythene-wrapped item lying at the river ghat. Upon closer inspection, they found a red-coloured object inside the package. Its appearance led them to suspect that it could be an explosive device, causing alarm to spread quickly through the area. Following the initial discovery, local residents informed Gangni Police Station.

Police personnel subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the suspicious package. Inside the polythene, officers found a red object wrapped in adhesive tape, along with a separate handwritten note. Both items were taken into police custody and transported to the station for further examination.

The note, which was also inside the polythene packaging, could not be immediately read or analysed due to its condition at the time of recovery. Authorities have stated that its contents will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

He further noted that it has not yet been confirmed whether the object is an actual explosive device. Forensic examination by relevant specialists will be required to determine its nature. Until such verification is completed, the item will be treated as a suspicious object under standard investigative procedures.

Authorities are also examining the handwritten note to determine its contents and to assess whether it has any connection to attempted sabotage or other unlawful activity. At present, no conclusions have been drawn regarding its origin or purpose.

Security personnel often follow precautionary measures in such situations, including isolating the area, informing specialised units, and conducting controlled assessments of suspected explosive materials. However, officials have not yet disclosed whether additional security units were deployed in this specific case.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have indicated that further updates will be provided once forensic analysis and document examination are completed.
