Moving Car Fire in Farmgate

A fire broke out in a moving private car in the Farmgate area of the capital, Dhaka, on Tuesday morning, causing a brief disruption to traffic before being brought under control by firefighters.

The incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (6 May) in front of the Anand Cinema traffic box under Tejgaon Police Station jurisdiction, along a major road in Farmgate.

According to initial information, the fire originated in a private car bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-Ch 19-3397. It is reported that the blaze started from a mechanical fault in the vehicle’s engine while it was in motion. The fire quickly intensified, leading to panic among pedestrians and road users in the vicinity.

A unit of the Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived at the scene at approximately 10:15 a.m. and managed to bring the fire under control shortly thereafter. Fire officials confirmed that no casualties were reported in connection with the incident.

Following the fire, the vehicle sustained significant damage. Reports indicate that approximately one-third of the car was burned in the incident. However, a traffic official also stated that the vehicle was completely burnt, reflecting differing accounts regarding the extent of the damage.

After the fire was extinguished, the damaged vehicle was removed from the road using a recovery truck. The incident led to a temporary slowdown in traffic movement in the surrounding area, although normal traffic flow was later restored.

Traffic Inspector (TI) Zainal Abedin of the Farmgate Traffic Division stated that the private car caught fire due to a mechanical fault while it was travelling from the Sonargaon crossing area. He further noted that the vehicle was later removed from the road after the Fire Service brought the situation under control, and confirmed that there were no injuries to the driver, passengers, or members of the public.

Authorities did not immediately report any further disruption after the clearance of the vehicle, and normal traffic movement resumed in the area following the incident.
