A fatal road traffic accident involving a covered van and a motorcycle resulted in the deaths of two individuals in the Sharsha Upazila of Jashore district. The collision occurred at approximately 08:00 on Monday, 11 May 2026, in the Gilapol area on the Navaran-Satkhira highway.
Details of the Deceased
The victims have been identified as residents of the Ulashi Khalpar area within the same upazila. The deceased are:

Sequence of Events
According to police reports and local sources, the incident took place while Shahinur Rahman was travelling to Navaran Market to sell green chillies harvested from his field. He was a passenger on a motorcycle operated by Tozammel Hossain. As they reached the Gilapol area, a Satkhira-bound covered van travelling from the opposite direction collided head-on with the motorcycle.
The impact of the collision resulted in the immediate death of the motorcycle rider, Shahinur Rahman, at the scene. The passenger, Tozammel Hossain, sustained critical injuries. Local residents rescued Mr Hossain and transported him to the Sharsha Upazila Health Complex. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Official Response and Legal Proceedings
Gopal Karmakar, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Navaran Highway Police Station, confirmed the details of the accident. He stated that law enforcement officials have successfully seized the covered van involved in the crash. The bodies of the two deceased men are currently being held at the Sharsha Upazila Health Complex morgue.
The Highway Police have initiated the necessary legal protocols following the incident. Following the completion of the required administrative and legal formalities, the remains will be formally handed over to the respective families for burial. Traffic on the Navaran-Satkhira highway was briefly disrupted following the collision but was restored shortly after the police cleared the wreckage. An investigation is expected to be conducted to determine the exact circumstances leading to the head-on collision and to identify if there was any negligence on the part of the heavy vehicle driver.
