A wave of shock and outrage has swept across Khetlal upazila in Joypurhat district following the fatal lynching of an 18-year-old youth and the critical injury of his companion. The incident, triggered by unverified accusations of theft, unfolded early on Saturday morning in the Mohabbatpur Padmapukur area under Mahmudpur Union.
The deceased has been identified as Lal Badsha, 18, son of Jamal Hossain from Alampur Adarsha village under Alampur Union. His close friend and fellow villager, 18-year-old Maidul, son of Ibrahim Hossain, survived the brutal assault with severe injuries.
Passers-by discovered the two teenagers lying unconscious beside a roadside field early on Saturday, 15 August, and immediately contacted Khetlal Police Station. Responding officers recovered Lal Badsha’s body and rescued Maidul, who was rushed to the Khetlal Upazila Health Complex for emergency medical intervention before being referred for specialized care.

Recounting the terrifying event from his hospital bed, Maidul disclosed that a group of men enticed the two friends away from the Jamalganj Charmatha area and forcibly confined them inside a secluded house. The captors subjected them to intense, prolonged physical torture. Once both lost consciousness, the attackers dumped their bodies in an open field and fled.
Khetlal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muktarul Alam confirmed that preliminary findings point toward a mob attack fueled by theft allegations. However, law enforcement officials stated that investigators are exploring all potential angles and motives. Police have dispatched Lal Badsha’s body for autopsy while launching targeted raids across the district to apprehend all individuals involved.
