A twenty-seven-year-old man has achieved legal and familial recognition from his biological father at the Chittagong office of the National Legal Aid Services Organisation. The breakthrough occurred on Tuesday following the receipt of conclusive DNA test results, ending a separation that began before the child was born.

Interpersonal Conflict and Separation

The case stems from an established dispute in the Rangunia upazila of Chattogram District. An expatriate worker married a woman from his locality, but severe marital discord arose prior to the delivery of their child. The husband subsequently divorced his spouse and relocated overseas for employment, while the pregnant mother sought refuge at her paternal home.

The child was born and raised entirely within his maternal uncle’s household without any contact with his father. Years later, the father returned to Bangladesh, remarried, and settled down. Upon discovering his father’s whereabouts, the adult son attempted to initiate contact to secure paternal acknowledgement. When these efforts were repeatedly rebuffed, the son submitted a formal petition to the Chittagong Legal Aid office in June 2024.

Judicial DNA Order and Binding Resolution

During the initial mediation hearings, the father consistently denied the applicant’s claims of biological lineage. Consequently, a court directive mandated comprehensive DNA profiling of the mother, father, and son to establish the biological facts.

The medical institution tasked with the analysis forwarded the certified DNA report directly to the Legal Aid authorities, confirming an absolute biological match. Upon presentation of the genetic data, the father conceded the case and signed a formal, written covenant.

Under the terms of the signed reconciliation agreement, the father committed to the following legal obligations:

• Providing full paternal recognition and validating the son’s societal identity.

• Securing the son’s legal inheritance rights within his estate.

• Disbursing a sum of 200,000 BDT to fund the construction of a residential home for the son.

• Formally presenting the son to his extended family, relatives, and local community members.

In recognition of their willingness to resolve the matter via alternative dispute resolution, the office presented both individuals with commemorative T-shirts. Chittagong District Legal Aid Officer Ershadul Islam added that the office witnessed a poignant scene when the two men embraced upon signing the contract.

The son expressed immense satisfaction to media representatives, noting that the absence of a verified paternal identity had previously exposed him to sustained social stigma and derogatory comments from neighbours. He remarked that the official recognition effectively neutralises the social challenges he endured for twenty-seven years.
