Munshiganj Equipment Misappropriation Allegation

A press conference has been held in Munshiganj alleging the misappropriation of medical equipment worth around 1.5 crore taka, alongside accusations of fraud, false cases, and death threats linked to a diagnostic centre in the district town.

On Sunday (3 May), at the Shafiuddin Milonayatan of the Munshiganj Press Club, written allegations were presented by Haji Bashar Sarkar, the owner of the “Famous Health Care & Diagnostic Centre” located in Manikpur Plaza, Munshiganj town.

According to his statement, Md Monir Hossain, also known as “Rod Monir”, was initially brought in as a business partner to help operate the diagnostic centre. He stated that while the business initially functioned normally, Monir Hossain and his son, Rakibul Islam Rifat, later began systematically removing valuable medical equipment, furniture, and important documents from the facility.

Haji Bashar Sarkar alleged that on 28 February, essential diagnostic machinery, including a “Six Max” machine and other laboratory equipment, were taken from the centre. He further claimed that after investigation, the removed equipment was later found stored at a clinic in the Panchasar area.

He also stated that when contact was made with the accused individuals regarding the return of the equipment, they initially promised to return the items. However, they later denied the matter. On 3 March, when he visited their residence, he alleged that he was instead threatened and warned of death if any legal action was pursued.

He further claimed that when he attempted to file a complaint at Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, it was not accepted. He was therefore compelled to approach the court. The allegations filed include charges of fraud, breach of trust, theft, and intimidation.

It was further stated that the accused are operating business activities under the same name elsewhere, which, according to the complainant, has damaged the reputation of his establishment and resulted in financial losses of approximately 1.5 crore taka.

Concern was also expressed regarding personal and family safety. The complainant, identified as Qatar expatriate Abul Bashar, demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, recovery of the allegedly misappropriated assets, assurance of family protection, and a fair investigation into the matter.

Family members present at the press conference included his elder brother Bachu Sarkar and younger brother Jonael Sarkar.

Attempts were made to contact Md Monir Hossain for his response, but no statement could be obtained.
