Five people, including a child, have sustained burn injuries following a gas explosion caused by a leak at a residential house in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj. The incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Chanpur area of Madanpur. All the injured were initially taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.
According to available information, the explosion resulted from accumulated gas inside the house after leakage from a cylinder. The blast took place when a cooking stove was ignited in the morning, triggering an immediate explosion. Local residents rescued the victims from the scene and transported them to hospital.
Five individuals were injured in total, four of whom belong to the same family. The injured have been identified as Mannan (50), Sultana (35), Siam (19), Mimu (13), and Hazrat Ali (8), all residents of Chanpur village in Bandar upazila.
Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mostafa Ashraf Uddin stated that gas had leaked from a cylinder and accumulated inside the house, creating a highly flammable environment. When the stove was lit in the morning, the trapped gas ignited, causing the explosion and resulting burn injuries to all five occupants present at the time.
Medical officials at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery reported varying degrees of burn injuries among the victims. According to the emergency department’s resident physician, Shaon Bin Rahman, some of the patients sustained critical injuries with a high percentage of body burns.
