Shibalaya Drug Raid Sees Two Arrests

Police in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj have arrested two alleged drug traffickers and recovered 450 pieces of yaba tablets during a special operation conducted by the district Detective Branch (DB). Authorities estimate the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately BDT 135,000.

The operation was carried out on Sunday at around 8:10 pm in the Tepra area under Shibalaya police station. Acting on confidential intelligence, a team of DB officers conducted a targeted raid in the courtyard of an abandoned house, which had reportedly been under surveillance due to repeated suspicions of drug-related activities.

According to police sources, the location had long been identified as a discreet meeting point for the distribution and exchange of illegal drugs. Following verification of intelligence inputs and continuous monitoring, law enforcement officers planned the operation meticulously to ensure the suspects could be apprehended without alerting others in the network.

The raid was executed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police of Manikganj district, with senior officers from the Detective Branch leading the field operation. Officers confirmed that once the suspects’ presence was established, the area was swiftly cordoned off before the arrest was made.

Two individuals were detained at the scene: 32-year-old Fayez Ahmed and 36-year-old Md Jigir Ali, both residents of Shibrampur village in Shibalaya upazila. During the search, police recovered 400 yaba tablets from Fayez Ahmed and 50 tablets from Jigir Ali, totalling 450 pieces.

Law enforcement officials believe that the arrested individuals may be part of a wider organised network involved in the local supply and distribution of illegal narcotics. Investigators are currently interrogating the suspects in an effort to identify additional members of the network and trace the supply chain.

A case has been filed at Shibalaya Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, and preparations are underway to produce the accused before the court. The seized yaba tablets have been formally recorded and documented as evidence.

Police authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict anti-narcotics operations across the district. They emphasised that such drives will continue regularly in order to dismantle drug networks and curb the spread of substance abuse, particularly among young people.

Local residents have expressed cautious relief following the arrest, noting that intensified law enforcement action could help deter drug-related activities in the area and protect vulnerable youths from falling into addiction.
