Boy Missing Sparks Widespread Concern

A wave of anxiety has gripped Sadarpur upazila in Faridpur district after a nine-year-old boy went missing three days ago, with no trace of him yet discovered despite extensive search efforts by his family, locals, and law enforcement agencies.

The missing child, identified as Samiul Mollik (9), is the son of Mirajul Mollik from Nayakandi village under Krishnapur Union. According to family and local accounts, Samiul left home early on Monday morning at around 7:00 a.m., riding his bicycle. He was expected to return shortly, but never came back.

Initially, relatives assumed he might have gone to nearby areas and would return on his own. However, as hours turned into days without any sign of the boy, concern escalated rapidly within the family and the wider community.

Search operations were immediately launched by family members, who visited relatives’ homes and other likely locations. Loudspeaker announcements were also made across neighbouring villages to seek information. Volunteers from the locality joined the effort, combing riverbanks, market areas, school surroundings, and adjoining rural paths. Despite these coordinated attempts, no clue has yet been found.

A disturbing development emerged the following day. The family claims that on Tuesday morning at around 10:00 a.m., a message was sent via a messaging application to a relative’s mobile phone, demanding a ransom of three lakh taka in exchange for the child’s return. This revelation intensified fear and suspicion among the family members and residents alike.

Authorities have since stepped up their response. Police have launched an active investigation, increasing surveillance in the area and examining all possible angles, including abduction and accidental disappearance. Officials stated that multiple teams are working on the case and that technological support is being utilised to trace any digital or physical leads.
