A formal complaint has been lodged against the Project Implementation Officer (PIO) of Kalia Upazila, alleging that he demanded a bribe of one lakh taka in exchange for releasing the second instalment of a government development project fund. The accusation has triggered widespread discussion within local administrative and project-related circles.
According to the complainant, Md A. Kader Sikder, a resident of the Nardagati area, the allegation concerns development works carried out under the TR (Test Relief) programme. He stated in his written submission that funds were allocated for the construction and infrastructural improvement of two religious educational institutions—Nardagati Markaz Sawtul Quran and Nardagati Women’s Madrasa.
He further claimed that the allocated funds had already been used to complete key phases of construction, including building works and earth-filling activities. However, complications allegedly arose when the second instalment of the fund was due for release.

He stated that three separate projects worth six lakh taka were allocated to the complainant, of which three lakh taka had already been withdrawn as the first instalment. However, he argued that the physical work under these projects has not been properly completed.
He further noted that one of the projects has already had its funds released, while the remaining two are still pending due to incomplete work. According to him, the project deadline is set for 22 June, and his queries were strictly part of routine official monitoring responsibilities. He insisted that no demand for bribes was made and described the allegations as deliberately misleading.
The District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer of District Relief and Rehabilitation Office, ABM Monowarul Alam, confirmed receipt of the written complaint. He stated that the matter would be investigated and appropriate legal action would be taken based on findings. However, he also noted that no video evidence or supplementary documentation had yet been verified.
The incident has generated mixed reactions locally. While some residents are calling for an impartial and transparent investigation, others have raised broader concerns about oversight and accountability in development project implementation.
