In prison, Inu is regularly recording all activities in two notebooks.

The former Information Minister and President of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad), Hasanul Haq Inu, has disclosed in court that he is maintaining written records of his ongoing legal proceedings within two separate diaries in prison. This statement has triggered a fresh wave of controversy across the court premises.

The remarks were made on Monday (22 June) during a hearing at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter. The session was convened to consider a police application to show Hasanul Haq Inu formally arrested in connection with an attempted murder case filed at the Bangshal Police Station in the capital.

Court Proceedings and Diary Revelations

During the courtroom hearing, Inu asserted that he has been utilising one red diary and one green diary whilst in custody. He explained that these notebooks are being used to meticulously document the progress of his cases, specific court orders, and the statements delivered by legal counsel during hearings.

The Public Prosecutor, Harun ur Rashid, confirmed the development, noting that the court was formally apprised of how these statements indicate a systematic documentation of various aspects of the legal proceedings.

However, the state prosecution took a critical view of these actions. Legal representatives for the state argued that such remarks could imply an indirect attempt to exert pressure or pose a subtle threat to the judiciary. They maintained that the conduct warrants scrutiny to determine whether it falls within the scope of contempt of court.

Furthermore, during the proceedings, Inu expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding the conditions of his detention, alleging that he had been kept waiting in the court lock-up for an unreasonable duration. He also voiced critical remarks regarding the general operations and functioning of the judiciary.

Rashed Khan Menon Co-Accused

On the same day, former minister and Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon was also produced before the court. During the joint proceedings, the prosecution presented legal arguments backing the police application to show both political figures arrested in the specific case.

Following the state’s submission, Menon addressed the court directly after obtaining formal permission from the magistrate. Upon concluding the hearings for both individuals, Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter granted the state’s petition to formally record the arrest of both Inu and Menon in the Bangshal Police Station case. Court sources indicated that a separate decision regarding whether Inu’s remarks amount to contempt of court will be delivered at a later date.

Case Background

According to official case documents, the matter originates from an incident on 5 August 2024, during a procession at the Chankharpool intersection in Dhaka. A citizen, identified as Md Mokhlesin, sustained gunshot wounds during the event and was subsequently admitted to Mitford Hospital for medical treatment. On 1 January of the following year (2025), Mokhlesin initiated legal proceedings by filing an attempted murder case at the Bangshal Police Station.
