Hridoy and Amit Hassan make Test debuts in Harare

Bangladesh began their Test against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club with two fresh faces in the longest format of the game, handing debuts to Towhid Hridoy and wicketkeeper-batter Amit Hassan. The match marked a significant moment in their careers as both players earned their first Test caps for the national side.

Hridoy became Bangladesh’s 110th Test cricketer, while Amit Hassan followed closely as the 111th to represent the country in Test cricket. Their inclusion reflects the team management’s continued effort to blend emerging talent with experienced campaigners in the traditional format of the game.

Bangladesh made a notable adjustment to their top order, with Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who had previously made his debut against Pakistan, left out of the playing XI. In his absence, the opening responsibilities were assigned to Sadman Islam and Mahmudul Hasan Joy, tasked with providing a steady start against a disciplined Zimbabwe bowling attack.

The middle order featured a blend of experience and stability, with Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), and Mushfiqur Rahim forming the core. Their presence was expected to anchor the innings and guide the relatively new batting combinations through challenging conditions in Harare.

One of the key talking points ahead of the match was the role of Amit Hassan behind the stumps. With regular wicketkeeper Litton Kumar Das unavailable, Hassan stepped into the dual responsibility of keeping wickets and contributing with the bat, a demanding assignment in Test cricket.

Bangladesh opted for a balanced bowling attack comprising three pace bowlers and a lone specialist spinner. The fast-bowling unit included Hasan Mahmud, Syed Khaled Ahmed, and Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, all expected to extract movement and maintain pressure throughout Zimbabwe’s innings. In the spin department, Taijul Islam remained the only frontline option, continuing his role as the team’s most reliable slow bowler in overseas conditions.

The Bangladesh XI reflected a clear intent to build depth while maintaining experience across departments. As the match unfolded in Harare, attention naturally turned to how the debutants would adapt to the demands and intensity of Test cricket at the international level.
