Two young men were killed and another seriously injured after a motorcycle collided head-on with a trolley in Sharsha Upazila of Jessore on Monday morning, in a tragic road accident that has left an entire community in mourning.
The fatal crash occurred at Salamer Mor in Goga village, a busy junction along the Rudrapur–Goga road. The deceased have been identified as Midul Hasan (Nahid) and Sohag Hossain (Usha), both residents of Daulatpur village under Benapole Port Police Station. A third rider, Rubel Hossain, who was travelling with them on the same motorcycle, sustained critical injuries and remains under medical treatment at hospital.
According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the three young men were travelling towards Rudrapur when their motorcycle reached Salamer Mor. At that moment, it collided head-on with a trolley approaching from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was completely mangled, leaving the rider and one of the passengers dead at the scene.
People living nearby rushed to the accident site immediately after the collision. Rubel Hossain, who survived the initial impact with serious injuries, was given first aid before being transferred to hospital for advanced treatment. Although officials have not released detailed information about his condition, he is receiving treatment under the supervision of medical professionals.
Police from Sharsha Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after being informed of the incident. Officers recovered the bodies of the two victims, inspected the crash site and collected necessary evidence before initiating the legal procedures required following a fatal road accident.
Officer-in-Charge Shaminul Haque confirmed the deaths and said the trolley involved in the collision had been taken into police custody. He added that no written complaint had yet been filed in connection with the incident. Legal action will proceed in accordance with the findings of the preliminary investigation if a complaint is submitted.
Local residents said Salamer Mor is one of the area’s busiest road intersections, where vehicles travelling in different directions frequently converge. They noted that heavy vehicles, including agricultural trolleys, regularly use the route, increasing the risk of serious accidents if drivers fail to exercise adequate caution, particularly at junctions with limited visibility.
Road safety specialists have long warned that collisions involving motorcycles and slow-moving heavy vehicles often result in devastating consequences because motorcyclists have little physical protection during high-impact crashes. They have repeatedly stressed the importance of ensuring that agricultural trolleys and similar vehicles operate in compliance with traffic regulations, maintain controlled speeds and use the correct lanes where applicable. They also emphasise that extra care should be taken when approaching intersections and bends.
Experts further advise motorcycle riders to obey speed limits, remain vigilant at road junctions, wear appropriate protective equipment and follow traffic rules at all times. They argue that a combination of responsible driving, improved enforcement of traffic laws and greater awareness among all road users could significantly reduce the number of fatal crashes on both regional roads and highways.
The accident has cast a shadow of grief over Daulatpur village, where both victims lived. Their sudden deaths have deeply affected family members, friends and neighbours, who are struggling to come to terms with the loss of two young lives in a single tragic incident.
