Bangladesh football fans have reason to celebrate after the national team achieved its highest FIFA ranking in nine years. Following a remarkable win against India, the team climbed three places to 180th in the latest rankings released on Wednesday night.
The country’s previous peak came in March 2016, when Bangladesh reached 177th, though it fell to 188th later that same year. The recent surge is credited to coach Javier Cabrera’s tactical expertise and the team’s strong performances on the pitch. Points increased from 894 to 911, marking a tangible improvement in international standing.
India, conversely, experienced a significant drop, losing 18 points and slipping six spots from 136th to 142nd, highlighting the growing competitiveness of Bangladesh’s squad.
At the top, the world’s football hierarchy remains largely unchanged, with Spain, Argentina, France, and England occupying the top four positions. Notably, Brazil has climbed from seventh to fifth following a win against Senegal and a draw with Tunisia, showing how even established giants continue to shift positions.
For Bangladesh, this ranking is more than a number—it is a symbol of progress, ambition, and determination. Fans and analysts alike view the rise as a reflection of strategic coaching, enhanced player development, and growing confidence. With upcoming international fixtures, the national team has the opportunity to maintain this momentum and possibly secure an even higher position, signalling a bright future for Bangladeshi football.
