Rival Faction Violence in Brahmanbaria Claims Life

Brahmanbaria was rocked by a violent incident late on Thursday night as former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist Saddam Hossain Saddam, 37, was murdered in a gruesome attack. Saddam, who lived in Kandipara Maimolhati and was the son of Mostofa Kamal Mostu, was reportedly called out of his home and attacked with a knife to his throat and shot.

The incident followed earlier clashes between rival factions over local dominance. On Thursday evening, a dispute erupted between Lion Shakil’s group and the volunteer faction led by Delwar Hossain Dilip. The confrontation involved gunfire, leaving three individuals injured and a total of five people wounded in the Kandipara area. Later, at around 12:30 am, two brothers, Robin and Rijan, were brutally beaten, and the assailants stole Robin’s motorcycle and cash totalling 230,000 Taka. The injured were transported to Dhaka for medical treatment.

Saddam’s father recounted the chilling details, stating that his son was taken from the house by Dilip, Babul, and Polash, and later found murdered near Khalpara Mosque. He explained that Saddam’s throat was slit and he had been shot in the chest. Saddam was a married man with two children, leaving behind a grieving family and community.

Brahmanbaria Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Azharul Islam confirmed the murder and stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. He added that an investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The killing highlights the rising trend of factional violence in the region, reflecting the tensions and power struggles among local groups. Local residents have expressed fear and concern, urging law enforcement to take swift action to prevent further bloodshed and maintain peace in the community.
