Residents of Sylhet city have been informed that electricity supply will be temporarily suspended on Monday, 1 December, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. The interruption is necessary to carry out essential transformer repairs, routine maintenance, and the trimming of tree branches that pose a risk to the power lines.
The Sylhet Electricity Development Board (SEDB), Sales and Distribution Division-2, issued the advisory, emphasising that the planned work is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the reliability and safety of the local electricity network. Executive Engineer Md. Abdur Razzak expressed regret for the inconvenience, urging customers to cooperate to facilitate the improvements. “We apologise for the temporary disruption and appreciate the public’s understanding as we undertake these necessary works to ensure a more stable electricity supply,” he stated.
According to the SEDB, the power outage will affect areas served by the 11 kV Spring Tower feeder line, which includes several key residential and commercial zones. The disruption may end earlier than scheduled if the maintenance work is completed ahead of time.
For clarity, the areas expected to experience temporary power cuts are summarised below:
| Feeder Line | Affected Areas | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| 11 kV Spring Tower | D Block Main Road, E Block Point, and surrounding areas | 7:00 am – 5:00 pm (1 Dec) |
Electricity supply interruptions, while inconvenient, are crucial for ensuring long-term network stability and preventing unplanned outages. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures such as charging essential devices in advance and limiting the use of sensitive electrical equipment during the outage window.
The Sylhet Electricity Development Board reiterated that all safety measures will be strictly observed during the maintenance work, including regulated tree trimming near power lines to prevent future faults. They also encouraged residents to report any emergencies or damage to nearby equipment promptly to their local office.
By undertaking these scheduled maintenance activities, SEDB aims to provide a more reliable and efficient electricity service to Sylhet’s rapidly growing urban population, helping reduce the risk of sudden outages caused by technical failures or natural interference.
