Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim has been nominated for the International Cricket Council’s Player of the Month award for July following a prolific run of performances across white-ball cricket. England’s Harry Brook and West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves are the other two nominees in the men’s category.
Tanzid’s nomination comes after an impressive tour of Zimbabwe, where he emerged as Bangladesh’s most consistent run-scorer across both the one-day international and Twenty20 international series.
The left-handed opener enjoyed an especially productive ODI campaign. Across the three matches, Tanzid scored 159 runs at an average of 53, striking at 89.83. Although Bangladesh eventually lost the ODI series 2-1, Tanzid’s consistency provided one of the brighter aspects of the team’s campaign.
He carried that form into the subsequent Twenty20 series. In three matches, Tanzid accumulated 140 runs at an average of 70, with a strike rate of 127.27. Once again, he finished as Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer in the series. This time, however, his contributions came alongside a successful team campaign, as Bangladesh secured a 2-1 series victory over Zimbabwe.
The nomination places Tanzid alongside two players who also produced outstanding performances during July.
Brook, England’s white-ball captain, was in exceptional form during the series against India. While he managed only 31 runs across three ODIs, his Twenty20 performances were considerably more influential. He scored 229 runs in five matches, averaging 114.50 and maintaining a remarkable strike rate of 214.01.
Brook’s performances played a major role in England’s dominant Twenty20 campaign against India. England won the series 4-0, with Brook also receiving the Player of the Series award. His extraordinary scoring rate and consistency made him one of the most influential batters in international cricket during the month.
Greaves, meanwhile, strengthened his case through contributions with both bat and ball. Against Sri Lanka, he produced a memorable 180 in a Test match that ended in a draw, with West Indies eventually winning the series 1-0. He then made a significant impact with the ball in the Tarouba Test against Pakistan, claiming seven wickets.
Across two Tests in July, Greaves finished with 215 runs and eight wickets. He also played two ODIs during the month, scoring 32 runs. His ability to contribute in both disciplines has made him a strong contender for the award.
The women’s category also features three nominees: West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews, Sri Lanka batter Harshitha Samarawickrama and England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt.
For Bangladesh, Tanzid’s nomination represents recognition of a month in which he showed that he can make a sustained impact across formats. His performances in Zimbabwe were marked not only by the volume of runs but also by consistency, with the opener producing important contributions in both ODI and Twenty20 cricket.
The final award will be decided from the three nominees in the men’s category, with Tanzid facing strong competition from Brook’s explosive Twenty20 campaign and Greaves’ all-round performances. Whatever the final outcome, the nomination gives further recognition to Tanzid’s growing importance in Bangladesh’s batting line-up.
