Sirajganj Highway Accident Leaves One Dead

A tragic road accident in Sirajganj’s Kazipur upazila has claimed the life of one man and left three others seriously injured, once again highlighting the persistent dangers on regional highways. The incident occurred on Monday evening, 15 December, along the Kazipur–Sirajganj regional highway, specifically at the Patagram Road area, a stretch frequently used by both heavy vehicles and local transport.

According to eyewitness accounts, a truck transporting government-issued school textbooks was travelling along the highway when it reached the Patagram Road section. At that moment, an auto-van approaching from the opposite direction collided head-on with the truck. The impact of the crash was severe, causing extensive damage to the smaller vehicle and throwing its passengers into chaos.

One of the passengers of the auto-van, identified as Chan Mia, aged 65, died on the spot due to the force of the collision. The van driver and three other passengers sustained critical injuries. Local residents rushed to the scene and assisted in rescuing the injured, who were later taken to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment. Medical sources reported that at least two of the injured remain in a serious condition.

The deceased, Chan Mia, was a resident of Gandhail Uttarpara village under Kazipur upazila. He was the son of the late Sabed Ali and worked as a mason by profession. Family members and neighbours described him as a hardworking and humble individual who had been supporting his household through daily labour. His sudden death has left the family devastated, both emotionally and financially.

Police from Kazipur Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information about the accident. The Officer-in-Charge, Shah Md. Enayetur Rahman, confirmed that the truck involved in the collision had been seized as part of the investigation. However, the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large. The body of the deceased was handed over to his family following the completion of initial legal formalities. Authorities have stated that further legal action is currently underway.

Local residents have expressed growing concern over frequent accidents on the Kazipur–Sirajganj regional highway. They allege that reckless driving, poor visibility during evening hours, and inadequate traffic monitoring contribute significantly to such fatal incidents. Many have called upon the relevant authorities to introduce stricter traffic control measures and improve road safety infrastructure to prevent future tragedies.
