In a shocking revelation from Mymensingh, two long-serving employees of the District Council—Mahmudur Rahman Taslim, the accountant, and Nurul Alam Noman, the senior assistant—are facing serious allegations of corruption and abuse of power. According to reports, the duo allegedly refuses to process any files without receiving bribes, effectively building a “vast empire of corruption” over their years of service.
A written complaint submitted to the Divisional Commissioner by local resident Sohail Ahmed claims that both officials demanded substantial bribes for the release of funds for several development projects in his area. When bribes were refused, they allegedly declined to sign off on project files, bluntly stating, “No work will proceed without money.” Victims are now appealing for intervention from higher administrative authorities.
Anonymous sources within the District Council disclosed that Taslim has held his position for 17 years, while Noman has served for 13 years. Their prolonged tenure has reportedly made them audacious in their dealings, to the extent of styling themselves as the Council’s ‘don’. Locals assert that the pair is so influential they show little regard even for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or other senior administrators and allegedly boast of having the power to influence transfers within the ministry.
Further allegations suggest that the two employees have embezzled millions of takas through commission-based schemes from various council projects. Reports indicate they own substantial properties in both urban and rural areas of Mymensingh, raising questions about how ordinary employees amassed such vast wealth.
The allegations have sparked widespread resentment among contractors and the general public. Civic activists and local observers have demanded the immediate transfer of the two officials and exemplary punishment. According to locals, the ongoing corruption has tarnished the Council’s reputation and stalled essential development projects. Contractors have warned that failure to act swiftly could result in large-scale protests.
Repeated attempts to reach Mahmudur Rahman Taslim by phone were unsuccessful, while Nurul Alam Noman repeatedly disconnected calls.
Addressing the matter, CEO Shah Md. Kamrul Huda stated:
“I am new to this post, and the matter will be examined thoroughly. If any malpractice is confirmed, strict legal action will be taken following investigation.”
Summary of Allegations:
| Employee Name | Position | Years of Service | Primary Allegations | Impact |
| Mahmudur Rahman Taslim | Accountant | 17 | Demanding bribes, withholding project approvals | Delays in development projects, embezzlement |
| Nurul Alam Noman | Senior Assistant | 13 | Demanding bribes, defying administrative authority | Stalled projects, undermining council reputation |
Local residents and stakeholders are urging immediate administrative intervention to restore accountability and safeguard ongoing development efforts.
