Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominee Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has formally entered the race for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, submitting his nomination papers for the Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency with a pledge to transform the area into a “Model Tangail” grounded in development, security, and good governance.
On Monday afternoon (29 December) at approximately 3:30 pm, Tuku submitted his nomination papers to the District Administrator and Returning Officer, Sharifa Haque, at the Tangail District Administration office. The event drew considerable attention, with senior party leaders and grassroots activists gathering in large numbers, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere around the premises.
Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku outlined his vision for Tangail Sadar, promising to establish a society free from terrorism, narcotics, extortion, and juvenile gang violence. “If entrusted with the mandate of the people, I will work with sincerity, determination, and unwavering commitment to build a safe, modern, and liveable Tangail,” he said, adding that public safety and social stability would remain central to his agenda.
He further emphasised that, with the love, prayers, and support of the electorate, Tangail Sadar would be developed into a benchmark constituency—one that exemplifies sustainable development, transparent administration, and effective governance. According to Tuku, his vision goes beyond infrastructure, encompassing social harmony, youth empowerment, and rule of law.
Addressing party unity, Tuku asserted that the BNP remains firmly united under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. He expressed confidence that, in the days ahead, party leaders and activists would set aside all differences and work collectively for the victory of the party symbol, the sheaf of paddy, under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. Quoting the ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman, he remarked, “The party is greater than the individual, and the country is greater than the party. It is with this philosophy that we move forward.”
Tuku urged all BNP leaders, activists, and supporters in Tangail to remain united and to work wholeheartedly in favour of the party’s candidate.
It may be recalled that the BNP officially nominated Sultan Salahuddin Tuku as its final candidate for the Tangail-5 constituency on 4 December. He subsequently collected his nomination papers from the District Election Office on 21 December, completing the formalities ahead of the submission deadline.
This election marks Tuku’s first bid for a parliamentary seat from Tangail-5. However, he is no stranger to politics, having previously served as president of both the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, roles that provided him with extensive organisational and leadership experience.
During the submission ceremony, several senior BNP figures were present, including Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shaheen, former District Member Secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal president Ahmedul Haque Shatil, and Tangail Sadar Upazila BNP President Azgar Ali, among others.
