In a pulsating encounter that defined the competitive spirit of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the Chattogram Royals surged back to the pinnacle of the points table following a decisive 14-run triumph over the Sylhet Titans. The 16th match of the tournament, held on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, saw the Royals successfully defend a formidable total in front of a passionate crowd at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
After the Titans won the toss and elected to field, Chattogram’s openers set a steady tone with a 35-run stand before Naim Sheikh was dismissed for 18. The innings truly ignited through a 60-run partnership between the prolific Adam Rossington and the aggressive Mahmudul Hasan Joy. Rossington, chasing a remarkable fourth consecutive half-century, narrowly missed the landmark, while Joy provided the fireworks with a blistering 44 runs off a mere 21 deliveries.
The finishing touches were applied by captain Mahedi Hasan, whose explosive cameo of 33 from just 13 balls pushed the Royals’ total to a daunting $198/5$. Despite the onslaught, Sylhet’s Ruyel Miah remained effective, finishing with figures of 3 for 32.
The Titans’ pursuit of 199 began poorly as they lost key openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Taufiq early. Afif Hossain offered a resilient fightback, scoring a composed 46, but he found himself isolated as wickets tumbled at the other end.
The chase was eventually derailed by a clinical spell from Aamir Jamal, who claimed 4 wickets for 34 runs. Although late-order resistance from Azmatullah Omarzai and Mehidy Hasan Miraz kept the game alive until the final over, Sylhet were eventually bundled out for 184 with two balls remaining.
Table: BPL 2026 Points Table – Top Three (As of 7 January)
| Position | Team | Played | Won | Points | Net Run Rate (NRR) |
| 1st | Chattogram Royals | 6 | 4 | 8 | Positive (Leader) |
| 2nd | Rangpur Riders | 6 | 4 | 8 | Lower than Royals |
| 3rd | Sylhet Titans | 6 | 3 | 6 | Neutral |
This fourth victory of the season is a statement of intent from Mahedi Hasan’s squad. While they are currently level on points with Nurul Hasan Sohan’s Rangpur Riders, Chattogram’s superior run rate ensures they hold the psychological advantage. For the Titans, the loss is a missed opportunity to consolidate their position, though they remain firmly in the playoff hunt in third place.
