Stabbing at Muktagachh Claims Labourer’s Life

A harrowing and violent incident has left the residents of Muktagacha Upazila, Mymensingh, in deep shock after a young man, Shafiqul Islam, aged 30, was fatally stabbed in his home. The attack occurred late on Tuesday night, around 11:45 pm, in the Shyampur Ghoshbari area (near Police Mor) of the Kumargata Union. Shafiqul Islam, the eldest son of Kashem Ali, was the primary breadwinner and a key figure in his family.

According to police and local sources, Shafiqul was at home when a group of unidentified assailants forcibly entered his residence. In a sudden and brutal assault, they stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Neighbours and family members rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Family members stated that Shafiqul had succumbed to his injuries even before reaching the hospital.

The murder has sent shockwaves through the village. Residents, including children and the elderly, are reportedly afraid to leave their homes at night. Although some villagers have surrounded the local police station in demand for swift action, the perpetrators have not yet been identified.

Police Response

OC of Muktagacha Police Station, Md. Lutfur Rahman, said, “Preliminary information has been collected from the scene. Efforts are underway to apprehend those involved in this heinous act.” Additional Police Superintendent (Administration and Finance), Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, added, “A detailed investigation has been launched to identify the assailants and uncover the motive. The scene has been thoroughly examined, and family members have been questioned.”

The authorities have increased patrolling and implemented additional security measures in Shyampur Ghoshbari to restore a sense of safety among residents. Locals have expressed hope that the killers will be swiftly brought to justice and that the village will regain its peace.

Residents fear that the psychological impact of this violent murder will linger for a long time, intensifying the community’s grief. Meanwhile, families and the broader village continue to call for urgent police action and transparent investigation to prevent further fear and unrest.
