Casemiro’s Manchester United chapter ends today

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has confirmed that he will depart the English giants at the conclusion of the current season. The club issued an official statement yesterday, confirming that the 33-year-old Brazilian international will not be extending his stay, despite having an option to prolong his contract by an additional year.

Reflecting on his imminent departure, Casemiro shared an emotional post on social media, accompanied by a video highlighting his memorable moments at the club. He wrote:

“I have made the decision — these will be my final four months at Old Trafford. Forever grateful. Forever a Red Devil.”

The veteran midfielder expressed his deep connection with Manchester United, adding:

“I will carry Manchester United with me for life. From the day I first set foot in this magnificent stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford, and the love of this special club’s supporters has now become my own.”

Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for a reported fee of nearly £60 million. A five-time UEFA Champions League winner, he quickly established himself as a central figure in United’s midfield, making 146 appearances and scoring 21 goals during his tenure.

His contributions were pivotal in the club’s cup successes. In the 2023 EFL Cup final, he scored a decisive header to secure a 2–0 victory over Newcastle United. Furthermore, he played an instrumental role in Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph in 2024.

Despite the announcement of his departure, Casemiro is keen to continue contributing over the next four months, stating:

“This is not the time to say goodbye. There are still memories to be made, battles to be fought, and my sole focus remains giving everything for the team’s success.”

Manchester United’s official statement lauded the midfielder’s impact:

“Casemiro’s combative mentality and ability to influence key matches have made him a fan favourite. His presence on the pitch has provided balance, not just defensively but also in crucial attacking moments.”

The Brazilian endured challenging periods at Old Trafford, particularly during the 2023–24 season when inconsistent form led to criticism and speculation about a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Casemiro, however, chose to remain in Europe and reclaim his form.

Currently, Manchester United sit fifth in the Premier League, 15 points adrift of leaders Arsenal. The Red Devils will face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday in what could be a defining fixture in their season.
