38 BGB Platoons Deployed Ahead of Elections

In preparation for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has undertaken extensive security measures to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful voting process across the capital and two other districts. From Thursday, 29 January, personnel from five BGB battalions under the Dhaka sector will assume field duties, focusing on law and order and the protection of voters throughout the election period.

The announcement was made at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon at the training grounds of the five battalions’ headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka. Lieutenant Colonel Taimur Hasan, Battalion Commander, confirmed the mobilisation plan and outlined the deployment strategy.

A total of 38 BGB platoons will be deployed across constituencies under the Dhaka sector’s jurisdiction. The distribution of platoons is as follows:

To enhance security, check posts will be established at key entry points and strategic locations within the capital, employing advanced surveillance technologies. Specialised K-9 dog squads will be on standby to assist in detection and security operations.

Additionally, the BGB has prepared for any emergency with its Rapid Action Team (RAT), Quick Response Force (QRF), and helicopters ready for immediate deployment if necessary. Modern equipment—including body-worn cameras, night vision devices, armoured personnel carriers (APCs), and advanced signalling tools—will be utilised to monitor and maintain law and order. A dedicated monitoring cell at battalion headquarters will continuously oversee the security situation.

Lieutenant Colonel Hasan emphasised that there are no restrictions from the Election Commission preventing BGB personnel from entering polling centres. If requested by presiding officers, or in the event of violence or suspected ballot fraud, BGB forces will intervene immediately to maintain order.

Officials expressed optimism that, through the combined efforts of the government, Election Commission, and general public, the forthcoming parliamentary elections will be conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and festive atmosphere, reflecting the democratic spirit of the nation.
