Auto-rickshaw recovered and arrest made in Raiganj driver killing case

Police in the Raiganj Upazila of Sirajganj have apprehended a suspect and recovered a stolen vehicle following the brutal murder of an autorickshaw driver. The individual was taken into custody on Wednesday evening and subsequently produced before the court on Thursday afternoon.

Case Background and Discovery

The victim, identified as Naeem Hossain (25), was a resident of Maltinagar village under Salanga Police Station. In addition to his primary occupation as a mason, he operated an electric autorickshaw to supplement his income. According to family reports, Naeem left his residence with his vehicle on Tuesday morning. When he failed to return home by nightfall, his relatives initiated an unsuccessful search.

On Wednesday morning, the situation turned tragic when Naeem’s body was discovered in the Khoichala Beel area. Local authorities confirmed that his throat had been slit. Following a post-mortem examination, the remains were handed over to the family, and he was buried on Wednesday evening.

Police Investigation and Arrest

In response to the homicide and theft, law enforcement launched an immediate operation to recover the vehicle and identify the perpetrators. Acting on intelligence, a team conducted a raid in the Jahangirgati area of the neighbouring Tarash Upazila on Wednesday evening.

During the operation, the police recovered the hijacked autorickshaw and arrested Shamim Uddin (27), son of Anwar Hossain. The Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Ahsanuzzaman, stated that Shamim was detained on charges of holding the stolen vehicle in his custody.

“Following the incident, police launched a drive to recover the hijacked autorickshaw and arrest those involved. We recovered the vehicle from Jahangirgati village and detained Shamim for being in possession of the stolen property. He has since been sent to court, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.” — OC Md. Ahsanuzzaman

A formal case has been filed by the victim’s wife, Khadija Khatun, against unidentified individuals. While Shamim Uddin is currently in custody, the police maintain that the investigation is active as they seek to identify and arrest other accomplices involved in the premeditated killing and robbery.
