Balam Returns This Eid With New Album and Music Video

The celebrated Bangladeshi musician Balam has officially marked his return to the music industry with a full-length studio album titled Maoula, ending a twelve-year hiatus from comprehensive album releases. While the artist remained connected to his audience through sporadic single releases over the past decade, this new project represents his fifth solo studio album. Four tracks from the collection were initially premiered during the recent Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

A New Direction in Sufi Music

The upcoming Eid-ul-Adha will see the release of a high-production music video for the album’s title track, “Maoula.” The song features lyrics co-written by Rashid Newton and Balam, exploring spiritual themes with the refrain, “Maoula Maoula Maoula / Tui Pana Dere Maoula.” Notably, this track marks Balam’s debut in the Sufi genre, a significant departure from his traditional melodic pop-rock style.

Balam noted that the inspiration for this particular composition arose from personal reflections during the pandemic. He stated that the prevailing global instability and a sense of internal void prompted him to explore spiritual themes. The artist himself has composed and arranged all six tracks on the album, ensuring that while each song varies in style, they remain anchored by strong melodic structures.

Production and Visual Representation

The music video for “Maoula” is set to be filmed on location in Nepal under the direction of Tanim Rahman Angshu. Balam has emphasised the importance of visual storytelling in contemporary music, asserting that high-quality music videos are essential to satisfy modern audiences. The video will be launched on his official YouTube channel as a festive gift for his supporters.

Discography and Career Milestones

Balam rose to prominence in the mid-2000s, establishing himself as a leading voice in the Bangladeshi music scene. His previous four albums produced several hits that remain popular today, including “Ek Mutho Roddur,” “Nesha,” and “Rimjhim.”

He is currently overseeing the final preparations for the video shoot and the subsequent release of the remaining tracks.
