Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the national women’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, following the conclusion of their home series against Sri Lanka. The announcement was made on Sunday, with preparations set to begin ahead of the global tournament.
The Bangladesh women’s team, popularly known as the Tigresses, are currently resting after completing the home series against Sri Lanka. Following that assignment, attention has now turned to the World Cup campaign. A training camp is scheduled to begin on 12 May as part of the build-up to the competition.
Nigar Sultana Joty has been named captain of the squad, while Nahida Akter will serve as vice-captain. The selection panel has made one notable change from the squad used in the Sri Lanka series. Sharmine Sultana has been left out, with Taj Nehar earning a place in the side.
The team’s preparation plan includes an overseas training phase before the World Cup. Bangladesh are scheduled to depart for Edinburgh, Scotland on 25 May, where they will participate in a tri-nation series involving hosts Scotland and the Netherlands. This series is considered an important part of their preparation programme. Following the tri-series, the squad will travel to Loughborough in England to play official warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup. These fixtures are intended to help the team adapt to English playing conditions and finalise combinations.
Bangladesh have been placed in a challenging Group A for the tournament. Their opponents include six-time champions Australia, along with India, Pakistan, South Africa, and the Netherlands. Group B consists of England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Scotland. The Netherlands will be making their debut in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The tournament begins on 12 June with the opening match between England and Sri Lanka at Edgbaston. Bangladesh will begin their campaign on 14 June at the same venue against the Netherlands.
