The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the tentative schedule for the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, signalling the resumption of domestic cricket following a prolonged period of disruption. According to an official press release issued today, the league is scheduled to begin on 4 May, subject to final confirmation, and is expected to conclude on 11 June. The board further stated that the complete fixture list will be published in due course.
The domestic cricket structure had previously been affected after a majority of Dhaka-based clubs declined to participate in competitions under the administration led by Aminul Islam’s board. This boycott extended across the First and Second Division competitions, resulting in incomplete participation and a disruption to the normal domestic calendar. A similar stance by several clubs also delayed the commencement of the Dhaka Premier Division League, preventing it from starting on time.
Following the replacement of the previous administration with an ad hoc committee within the BCB, the impasse was resolved. All participating clubs have now confirmed their involvement. In response to demands from players and clubs, the BCB has also expanded logistical and operational support for the tournament. These arrangements include board-provided transportation and meals for clubs on match days, as well as the deployment of specialised ambulance services at all venues. Additionally, each round will be followed by a two-day interval, consisting of one rest day and one reserve day to accommodate possible weather disruptions during the rainy season.
The competition will be staged across six designated venues. These include BKSP Ground 3, BKSP Ground 4, the Cricketers’ Academy Ground, Bashundhara Sports City Ground, BKSP Ground 2, and the ULAB University Ground. The BCB has also indicated that matches may be scheduled at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur if it is available alongside other commitments.
In terms of format, the league will proceed without a Super League phase and will instead be conducted on a single-league basis. However, a relegation system will remain in place for the bottom three teams, with two teams set to be relegated to the First Division following a separate relegation round. The tournament will comprise 69 matches in total, including 66 matches in the league stage and 3 in the relegation stage.
