Beyoncé has officially released the long-awaited track Morning Dew (Donk), offering fans an early surprise ahead of the 20th anniversary edition of her acclaimed second studio album, B’Day. The song arrived on streaming platforms on Saturday, marking the beginning of a 60-day countdown to the anniversary release, which is scheduled for 4 September—a date that also coincides with Beyoncé’s birthday.
According to Parkwood Entertainment, the official release is accompanied by a lyric video directed by Cliff Watts. Rather than filming entirely new visuals, the production draws on carefully restored archival footage, giving the project a nostalgic feel while celebrating an important chapter in Beyoncé’s career.
Morning Dew (Donk) was written by Beyoncé alongside Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, with production handled by Beyoncé and Williams. Although the track was reportedly recorded in 2013, it never received an official release at the time, becoming one of the most talked-about unreleased songs among Beyoncé’s dedicated fan community, known as the BeyHive.
Interest in the song grew steadily over the years. A brief excerpt surfaced online in 2021, sparking widespread discussion among fans eager to hear the complete recording. Two years later, an unofficial full version appeared online, but many listeners continued to hope for a proper release with improved audio quality and the artist’s endorsement. That wish has now been fulfilled, with Parkwood Entertainment describing the release as a tribute to Beyoncé’s loyal supporters in advance of the forthcoming B’Day anniversary celebrations.
The announcement has also marked Beyoncé’s first official new music release in two years. While the track itself is rooted in sessions from more than a decade ago, its arrival bridges the gap between past and present, reconnecting listeners with an era that helped establish Beyoncé as one of the defining artists of modern popular music.
Originally released on 4 September 2006, B’Day debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 after selling more than 541,000 units during its opening week. The album quickly became one of the standout releases of the decade, producing a string of successful singles including Déjà Vu, Ring the Alarm and Irreplaceable. Its blend of energetic production, confident vocals and genre-spanning influences cemented the record’s place as a landmark in Beyoncé’s catalogue.
The album’s success continued with the release of a deluxe edition in April 2007. That expanded version introduced five additional tracks and included the B’Day Anthology Video Album, featuring 13 music videos that reflected Beyoncé’s growing emphasis on visual storytelling—an approach that would later become a defining element of her artistic identity.
Since then, Beyoncé has continued to evolve creatively, consistently exploring new musical directions while maintaining enormous commercial and critical success. Her latest studio album, the Grammy Award-winning Cowboy Carter, was released in 2024 and received widespread acclaim for its ambitious blend of country, Americana and contemporary influences.
Attention has already turned to what comes next. Fans continue to speculate that the final instalment of Beyoncé’s Renaissance trilogy could venture into rock music, following the dance-inspired Renaissance and the genre-blending Cowboy Carter. Despite persistent rumours, however, the singer has not confirmed any details about the project’s musical direction or release timetable.
For now, the official arrival of Morning Dew (Donk) gives fans a long-awaited addition to Beyoncé’s discography while setting the stage for the celebration of one of her most influential albums. As anticipation builds towards the 20th anniversary edition of B’Day, the release offers both a nostalgic look back and a reminder of the enduring appeal of one of popular music’s most celebrated performers.
