In Dinajpur’s Bochaganj upazila, allegations of murder have been raised against the former wife of businessman and rice mill owner Mostafizur Rahman following his death after a violent assault in Setabganj municipality’s Ramdas Para area on Sunday (14 June) afternoon.
According to local sources and police reports, Rahman, proprietor of DN Auto Rice Mill and son of the late Dr Niaz Uddin of Setabganj municipality, was allegedly attacked in a manner that caused severe injuries, including cuts to the tendons of his leg. He was initially rushed to Bochaganj Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the Dinajpur Zia Heart Foundation for advanced treatment. Despite intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries at around 10:30am on Monday (15 June).
Rahman was widely known in the locality as a businessman engaged in the rice milling industry. His sudden death has triggered shock and widespread discussion within the community.
Police officials, including Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kaharol Circle) Md Moniruzzaman and Officer-in-Charge of Bochaganj Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman, visited the scene on Monday morning. They collected preliminary evidence, examined the location, and spoke with witnesses as part of the early stages of investigation.
Initial police findings suggest that the victim had longstanding domestic disputes with his former wife, identified as Shilpi. Authorities suspect that unresolved marital conflict may have played a role in the incident. However, investigators have emphasised that no definitive conclusion has been reached and the case remains under active investigation.
Shilpi has been taken into custody through Kotwali Police Station on suspicion of involvement. Law enforcement officials are also investigating whether any additional individuals were implicated or whether the incident was premeditated.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination, and authorities have stated that the final cause of death will be confirmed upon receipt of forensic findings. Further witness statements and technical evidence will be analysed to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
