The body of a member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been recovered in Chuadanga. Police retrieved the body from a six-storey barrack building of the Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) located in Jafarpur area of Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Azizur Rahman, aged 40, a Naik serving in the 6 BGB. He was a resident of Nityanandapur village in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah district.
According to sources from the BGB and Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, Azizur Rahman lived in a barrack on the six-storey residential building within the battalion premises in Jafarpur. While BGB personnel occupy floors up to the fifth storey, the sixth floor of the building remained vacant. Authorities suspect that he died by suicide at some point during Friday night without the knowledge of his colleagues.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning, following which senior officials from the 6 BGB visited the scene. Upon receiving information, Officer-in-Charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman and Inspector (Investigation) Shahidul Islam also inspected the site.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital after the body was examined at the scene in the presence of Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam. Following the autopsy, the body was handed over to the deceased’s family and sent to his native village.
The Battalion Commander of 6 BGB, Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan, confirmed the recovery of the body and stated that Azizur Rahman had reportedly been suffering from mental distress for some time.
Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman added that the body was recovered and an autopsy was completed. He noted that the preliminary assessment suggests suicide, while the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem report is available.
