A fresh case of fraternal violence has emerged in Krishnapur village, Tarash Upazila, Sirajganj, as locals and the victim’s family allege that a farmer, Raich Uddin, was killed by his own brother, Majnu. According to the family, the killing was followed by local claims that Raich Uddin had died accidentally from an electric shock, a narrative the family strongly disputes.
The conflict reportedly began on 11 March 2026. The two brothers had been embroiled for years in disputes over fish farming in their ponds and the operation of an electrically powered irrigation pump across their 120–130 bigha farmland. Tensions escalated when Majnu, along with Abdul Latif and Motaleb, forcibly removed nearly 40% of the fish from Raich Uddin’s pond. When Raich Uddin attempted to intervene, he was beaten with iron rods and bamboo sticks, according to witnesses.
Three days later, on 13 March, police recovered Raich Uddin’s body from the irrigation pump shed. Speaking to journalists, his son Siam Hossain said, “My father was deliberately murdered. For over 15 years, he managed the irrigation of his crops himself. No one could take water from the pump without his permission, and this was the source of ongoing threats and clashes.”

Majnu has categorically denied all allegations. “Why would I, as a brother, harm my own sibling? Rumours are spreading, and we cannot comment further at this time,” he stated.
