Murder Case Filed Over Jubo League Leader Killing

A murder case has been filed following the brutal killing of Abdur Rahim, a local leader of the Jubo League in Charfassion Upazila, Bhola. The victim’s wife, Bibi Fatema, lodged the complaint on Monday at Shashibhushan Police Station, formally accusing seven individuals of involvement in her husband’s death.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 10:00 pm at the head of Kolerhat Road in Ward No. 5 of Rasulpur Union. Rahim, who served as the Jubo League convenor for the ward, was attacked with sharp weapons, leading to his death at the scene.

Local reports have suggested that those involved may be followers of Nurul Islam (Noyon), the recently elected BNP Member of Parliament for Bhola-4 constituency, which covers Charfassion and Monpura Upazilas. However, BNP leaders have firmly denied any political connection to the crime.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by Kamal Goldar, former office secretary of Charfassion Upazila BNP, it was emphasised that the allegations linking the party or Nurul Islam to the killing are unfounded. The statement read:
“The news titled ‘Jubo League leader hacked to death, son beaten the day before’ published in Prothom Alo has come to our attention. Neither Nurul Islam nor Charfassion BNP is in any way involved. The individuals responsible are primarily drug traffickers, and the killing appears to be linked to disputes over the distribution of narcotics, not politics. Any political allegation is completely baseless. We demand that the perpetrators be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

Police spokesperson Officer-in-Charge Fakhrul Islam confirmed that while the complaint names seven suspects, no arrests have yet been made. Law enforcement officers continue efforts to locate and apprehend those responsible.
