DMP Files 1,899 Cases in Traffic Enforcement Drive

In a concerted effort to restore order and discipline to the chaotic arteries of the capital, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division has initiated a rigorous two-day enforcement drive. According to a media release issued by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department on Saturday night, a staggering 1,899 cases were filed against various vehicles for blatant violations of traffic regulations across the city.

Regional Breakdown of Violations

The operations, carried out on Thursday, 5 March, and Friday, 6 March 2026, spanned all major traffic zones within the metropolitan area. The data reveals that the Uttara and Wari divisions recorded the highest number of infractions, highlighting these areas as particular hotspots for non-compliance.

Motorcycles continue to be the primary offenders in the city, accounting for a significant portion of the total cases filed. Additionally, the drive saw a high volume of heavy vehicles, such as buses and covered vans, being penalised for obstructing traffic flow and violating route permits.

Seizures and Deterrent Actions

Beyond the issuance of legal summons and fines, the DMP took physical action against the most egregious offenders to serve as a deterrent. During the 48-hour window, a total of 631 vehicles were seized and sent to various “dumping” stations for serious documentation lapses or mechanical unfitness. Furthermore, 273 vehicles were removed from the streets via wreckers for illegal parking and creating severe bottlenecks on major thoroughfares.

Commitment to Urban Discipline

The DMP has reiterated that these operations are not isolated incidents but part of an ongoing strategy to enhance road safety and reduce the notorious gridlock that plagues Dhaka. Authorities emphasized that special focus will remain on curbing the erratic movement of motorcycles and ensuring that public transport vehicles adhere to designated stopping points.

“The drive to maintain traffic discipline in the Dhaka metropolitan area will continue unabated,” the DMP stated, urging citizens to carry valid documentation and respect signal systems to avoid legal complications.
