Fiery Collision Shakes Boardbazar, Gazipur

A devastating road accident occurred on Thursday morning at 7:40 AM in the Boardbazar area of Gazipur City Corporation, leaving one person injured and prompting a rapid emergency response. A passenger bus travelling from Tangail towards Dhaka collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused sparks to ignite a fire on the bus almost immediately.

Eyewitnesses reported that the motorcycle became lodged beneath the bus after the collision, with friction against the road surface producing sparks that quickly spread flames to parts of the vehicle. Local residents swiftly alerted authorities, and two units of the Bhogura Modern Fire Service arrived on the scene. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after approximately 45 minutes of intensive efforts.

Station Officer Hiron Mia stated, “The accident temporarily disrupted traffic along the main road of Boardbazar. With assistance from police and local bystanders, the damaged bus was removed from the scene, and traffic gradually resumed.”

During the rescue operation, fire service personnel evacuated passengers trapped inside the bus safely. The injured individual was admitted to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Officials emphasised that, had the fire not been addressed immediately, there was a serious risk of the entire bus being consumed by flames.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by the motorcycle rider losing control in a narrow section of the road. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation to determine additional factors and responsibilities.
