Fraudsters Imprisoned Following Judicial Service Exam Malpractice

In a striking breach of academic and institutional integrity, two individuals have been handed custodial sentences following a high-tech cheating scandal during a Judicial Service Commission recruitment examination. The incident, which unfolded at the Government Titumir College centre in the capital, saw a judicial employee posing as a magistrate to facilitate the fraud.

A Sophisticated Deception

The primary architect of the scheme was identified as Mamunur Rashid (28), an existing employee of the Naogaon Court. In an audacious move, Rashid gained entry to the examination hall by falsely identifying himself as a Judicial Magistrate. His objective was to provide illicit assistance to Md. Shubho (26), a candidate sitting for a staff recruitment position within the judiciary.

The deception was uncovered when Arifur Rahman, a Special Magistrate from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), became suspicious of Rashid’s conduct within the hall. Upon conducting a search, authorities recovered two mobile phones from Rashid’s person, which were being used to coordinate the malpractice.

High-Tech Malpractice Unveiled

The investigation revealed a sophisticated digital loop designed to bypass exam security. Using the messaging platform WhatsApp, Shubho managed to transmit the question paper from the hall to an external accomplice identified as ‘Shyamal’.

Shyamal then formulated the answers and relayed them back to Shubho via a specialised electronic device. To ensure the device remained undetected, it had been intricately fastened to Shubho’s wrist, allowing him to receive and transcribe answers in real-time.

Judicial Consequences

Following their apprehension, both men were presented before a Mobile Court. Under the summary judgment, Mamunur Rashid received a one-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment, while Shubho was sentenced to ten months. The Gulshan Division of the DMP provided comprehensive logistical support throughout the seizure of evidence and the subsequent legal proceedings.

The authorities have underscored that this incident highlights the need for more stringent electronic countermeasures at recruitment centres, particularly for roles within the justice system where personal integrity is paramount.
