Government Retires Sixteen Senior Police Officers

The government has placed sixteen senior police officials, including Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and one Superintendent of Police, into compulsory retirement in a single administrative decision.

The order was issued through separate notifications by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the official gazette notices published on Sunday (3 May), the action has been taken under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. The provision empowers the government to retire public servants in the interest of public service, with immediate effect.

The notifications state that the retirement has been enforced in accordance with the law and is considered necessary in the public interest. It further confirms that all officers concerned will be entitled to retirement benefits as per existing government rules and regulations governing public sector service.

The officials affected serve in a range of specialised units, field formations, and police institutions, including training establishments, intelligence, highway policing, railway police, counter-terrorism, and administrative branches at Police Headquarters.
