Kacey Musgraves has announced a special run of album release performances in Texas, enlisting the young mariachi ensemble known as The Mariachi Brothers—three siblings whose recent detention by US immigration authorities drew widespread public attention.
The country music star confirmed on Tuesday, 28 April, that she will stage three consecutive shows at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, on 3, 4 and 5 May. The concerts are scheduled to take place shortly after the release of her forthcoming sixth studio album Middle of Nowhere, due on 1 May. The announcement was made via Instagram, where Musgraves shared a promotional poster naming her alongside “special guests The Mariachi Brothers.”
The trio comprises brothers Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar, originally from McAllen, Texas. Their ages are 18, 14 and 12 respectively. The siblings first gained wider recognition through their performances as part of a family mariachi group, including a notable appearance on Capitol Hill last year following an invitation extended by Representative Monica De La Cruz.
Earlier this year, the Gámez-Cuéllar family was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Texas for approximately two weeks. Their release in March followed significant public reaction and debate surrounding immigration enforcement practices in the United States. Antonio, the eldest brother, is an award-winning trumpeter, and the trio have been described locally as accomplished young performers within the regional mariachi tradition.
Musgraves has previously expressed critical views regarding immigration enforcement policies. In mid-2025, she publicly commented on social media concerning the visibility and accountability of enforcement officers during protests, aligning herself with broader calls from artists advocating for reform.
Her upcoming album Middle of Nowhere follows 2024’s Deeper Well, which achieved a peak position of number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The new record continues her collaboration-driven approach, featuring contributions from established artists including Miranda Lambert and Willie Nelson. Two songs have been released in advance of the album: “Dry Spell” and the title track.
