A Union-level leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and madrasa teacher has been stripped of his responsibilities after being found guilty of sending indecent and unsolicited messages to a student’s mother. The accused, Md Nurullah, aged from Tentulbariya village and son of Maulana Amzad Hossain, worked as a teacher at an independent Ibtedayi madrasa in the Krishnakathi area of Jhalakathi Sadar.
The situation escalated after months of growing suspicion and concern within the local community. Reports indicate that the first signs of misconduct surfaced when a video clip of an inappropriate video call featuring Nurullah began circulating widely on social media. The footage, involving an unknown woman, raised serious questions about his moral integrity and suitability for holding a party position.
However, the incident that prompted decisive action involved a disturbing case of harassment directed at the mother of one of his students. Local residents recounted that Nurullah had repeatedly sent inappropriate messages and suggestive proposals to the woman’s mobile phone. The matter came to the attention of her family, who were outraged by the messages. In a confrontation that followed, the woman’s relatives physically assaulted Nurullah, deeply angered by what they deemed a violation of trust from someone considered an educator.
Following these incidents, the local Jamaat leadership initiated a formal inquiry. The Jhalakathi district and Nolchhiti upazila committees jointly launched an investigation, interviewing community members, collecting evidence, and reviewing the digital messages allegedly sent by Nurullah. Their thorough review confirmed serious misconduct: harassment, moral breach, misrepresentation, and violation of organisational rules.
Acting upon the committee’s findings, Jamaat-e-Islami suspended him from his role as the president of the Ranapasha Union unit. The leadership categorically stated that the party had no tolerance for behaviour that undermined its ethical foundations. District secretary Md Faridul Haque remarked, “Jamaat-e-Islami upholds a strict code of moral conduct. No member, regardless of position, is allowed to breach these principles. His suspension reflects our commitment to organisational discipline.”
Repeated attempts to contact Nurullah after the announcement were unsuccessful. Despite several calls to his phone, he did not respond or provide any explanation regarding the accusations.
The madrasa authorities, though not issuing an official statement yet, have reportedly begun internal discussions on further action. Many parents in the community expressed concern about children’s safety and well-being, stating that someone accused of such behaviour should not continue teaching.
The scandal has triggered intense discussions within the community about safeguarding measures in religious educational institutions. Many residents voiced the need for stronger systems to protect women and children from potential harassment by those in authority. Others highlighted the importance of ensuring that teachers and religious leaders maintain the highest moral standards, as their behaviour heavily influences community trust.
While the investigation has concluded at the party level, the social repercussions are likely to continue. The community remains divided—some shocked, others unsurprised—yet nearly all united in their concern over the moral implications of the case.
