Major Police Leadership Shake-Up

A wide-ranging reshuffle and reappointment exercise has been carried out across several senior tiers of the Bangladesh Police, involving Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Additional DIGs, Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police. In total, 19 senior officers have been transferred or assigned new postings under a government directive issued on Wednesday (22 April).

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Toufique Ahmed of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was issued in accordance with orders from the President. Authorities stated that the reshuffle is intended to enhance administrative efficiency, strengthen field-level operations, and further streamline the overall structure of police administration in the public interest.

Officials concerned have been instructed to immediately join their new postings without delay, reflecting the urgency attached to the restructuring process.

Key Senior-Level Appointments

Among the notable changes, DIG Mohammad Abdullahil Baki has been appointed as DIG of the Highway Police. Kazı Zia Uddin has been posted as DIG at the Police Staff College, while newly promoted DIG Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh has been assigned to Police Headquarters.

In a significant development within specialised policing units, further adjustments have also been made across elite and technical branches of the force.

Metropolitan and Specialised Units Reshuffled

Substantial changes have been introduced within the Sylhet Metropolitan Police, where several officers at Superintendent of Police rank have been appointed as Deputy Police Commissioners. This group includes Mohammad Rehmot Ullah, M K H Jahangir Hossain, Md. Akhtar Hossain, and Shahriar Al Mamun.

In specialised formations, SP Dr. Eliza Sharmin has been assigned to the Armed Police Battalion (APBN), while Mohammad Shahjahan Mia has been posted to the Special Branch. Additionally, DIG Md. Rezaul Karim has been appointed as Additional Inspector General in the Naval Police.

Further transfers have been made within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Rajarbagh Police Hospital, Telecommunication Unit, and various range-level administrative offices. Authorities believe these adjustments will help improve coordination and operational effectiveness across different wings of the force.
