Man held in Jashore with gold worth Tk 7 million hidden inside trousers

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has apprehended a man attempting to smuggle gold bars concealed inside his trousers during a special operation in the Baulia Bazar area of Jashore Sadar. The gold, skilfully hidden around his waist, was valued at nearly Tk 7 million.

According to the Jashore Battalion (49 BGB), the operation was carried out at approximately 11:30 am on Monday following a tip-off based on secret intelligence. During the search, the patrol team recovered gold bars weighing 384.38 grams, with a total market value of Tk 6,939,212.

The detainee, identified as Imran Hossain, 42, is the son of Ibrahim Hossain from Sarkarpara in Satkhira Sadar. Upon questioning, he admitted that he had collected the gold from the Malibagh area of Dhaka and was en route through Jashore and Satkhira with the intention of smuggling it into India.

Following his detention, BGB filed a case and handed over Imran Hossain to Kotwali Police Station for further investigation. Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqi, Commander of the Jashore Battalion, confirmed the incident and emphasised the BGB’s commitment to preventing smuggling activities along the country’s borders.

The recovered gold represents one of the larger seizures in recent months in the region, highlighting the ongoing efforts of BGB personnel to curb cross-border smuggling. Officials also noted that the operation underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing in detecting and intercepting contraband before it can be illegally transported.
