A 30-year-old man was allegedly murdered after being lured to a meeting by a phone call in Lalmai Upazila of Cumilla, in a killing that has shocked local residents and prompted a police investigation. Officers have detained one person for questioning as they seek to establish the motive behind the attack and identify everyone involved.
The incident occurred on Saturday (27 June) morning in the East Dattapur area of Bagmara North Union. The victim, Bahar, was the son of Rashid Mia and a resident of the same locality.
According to local residents, Bahar received a phone call from Jhumu, the wife of his neighbour Russell, asking him to meet at a designated location. It has been alleged that shortly after he arrived there, he was attacked with a sharp weapon and his throat was slit. The assailants are believed to have fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack.
The incident came to light when local people found Bahar lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police. Officers from Lalmai Police Station quickly arrived at the scene, recovered the body and completed the initial inquest procedures. Arrangements were then made to send the body to the morgue at Cumilla Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The killing triggered concern and tension among local residents. Police said they took the necessary measures to maintain law and order while investigators began collecting physical evidence from the scene. One individual has been taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the case, although police have not disclosed the detainee’s identity or specific role in the incident.
Investigators said the motive behind the killing has not yet been established. They are examining all possible angles, including whether the attack was linked to a personal dispute, prior enmity or another underlying issue. Evidence gathered from the scene, witness statements and the findings of the post-mortem examination will form key parts of the investigation.
