Martinez Reaffirms Love for Bangladesh

Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has once again expressed his admiration for Bangladesh and its passionate football supporters, saying the affection he received during his visit to the country remains one of his most memorable experiences.

Despite Argentina’s demanding international schedule, Martínez took time to acknowledge the unwavering support of Bangladeshi fans following his side’s latest victory in the group stage. His remarks came after Argentina secured a convincing 3-1 win over Jordan at Dallas Stadium on Sunday morning (Bangladesh time), wrapping up their group campaign in style.

The reigning world champions claimed all three points through goals from Giovani Lo Celso, Lautaro Martínez and Lionel Messi. The result reinforced Argentina’s strong form as they progressed to the next phase of the competition.

Speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after the match, Martínez was approached by members of the Bangladeshi media. During the conversation, the Aston Villa goalkeeper warmly recalled his visit to Dhaka and reiterated his appreciation for the country and its people.

“I went to Bangladesh, and I truly love the country,” Martínez said, reflecting on the reception he received during his trip.

The 32-year-old also praised the extraordinary passion shown by Bangladeshi supporters for the Argentina national team, describing their enthusiasm as unlike anything he had experienced elsewhere.

“I know how crazy they are about us. I can say that because I have been there myself. I love their support. The way they follow Argentina is something I really appreciate. All my love goes to Bangladesh,” he added.

Martínez visited Bangladesh in 2023, just months after playing a pivotal role in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup triumph in Qatar. His brief stay in Dhaka attracted enormous public interest, with thousands of supporters gathering to catch a glimpse of the goalkeeper who became a national hero in Argentina after his decisive performances throughout the tournament, including the dramatic penalty shoot-out victory in the World Cup final.

Bangladesh has long been recognised as one of Argentina’s strongest football fan bases outside Latin America. The country’s enthusiasm for Argentine football drew widespread international attention during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, when streets across Bangladesh were decorated with Argentina’s sky-blue and white flags and supporters celebrated the team’s progress with remarkable passion.

Martínez’s latest comments underline the enduring bond between the Argentine national team and its Bangladeshi supporters. His heartfelt message is likely to resonate with millions of football fans in Bangladesh, many of whom continue to follow Argentina with remarkable devotion long after the World Cup celebrations have ended.
