Mechanics Announce Album Amid Line-up Changes

Bangladeshi rock band Mechanics has announced a new album to mark more than two decades of its musical journey, even as it confirmed significant changes to its line-up. The development was shared through an official Facebook post, which also revealed the departure of two long-standing members.

Guitarist Saif Irfan and bassist Soumik Islam are no longer part of the band’s current formation. In its statement, the band described the two musicians as integral contributors to its history, acknowledging their dedication, creativity, and shared experiences over the years. The message reflected on a journey shaped by live performances, studio sessions, and a sustained artistic collaboration.

The announcement posed a reflective question to followers—whether the moment represents the end of a chapter or the beginning of a new phase—while expressing gratitude for the contributions made by the departing members. The band extended its best wishes for their future endeavours, emphasising that their impact would remain a lasting part of its legacy.

At the same time, Mechanics confirmed the release of its second studio album, titled Ojojjo (translated as “Unworthy”). The band indicated that the album has been developed over recent months, describing it as a body of work shaped by unresolved emotions, personal reflections, and creative exploration. According to the statement, the album represents more than a collection of songs; it is positioned as a thematic expression of transition and continuity within the band’s evolution.

Founding member and vocalist Aftabuzzaman Tridib provided further context in remarks to a correspondent. He noted that changes in band composition are not uncommon, particularly over an extended period such as two decades. Saif Irfan and Soumik Islam had joined the band in 2018, contributing to numerous performances and recordings over the past eight years. Tridib explained that scheduling constraints and limited availability had posed challenges, and despite prolonged efforts to resolve these issues, an agreement could not be reached. The departures were subsequently formalised.

The band has indicated that replacements for the departing members will be announced in due course, though no names have yet been disclosed.

Details regarding the album’s release strategy have also been outlined. The forthcoming album will feature a total of ten tracks. Two songs—Ojojjo and Kholnayok (“Villain”)—have already been released. The remaining eight tracks are scheduled to be issued gradually over the next four months, with two songs to be released each month.
